The National Archives takes pride in the integrity and condition of our collection. Please read and accept our terms and conditions before ordering documents:

The reading rooms are designated quiet zones. Respect the right of other readers to research in a quiet environment.
Switch all equipment to silent mode (including mobile phones, laptops, cameras).
Disable all camera flash functions.
You must not bend, fold, untag, overhang, separate, mark or damage any document in any way.
If you wish to either photograph or have a copy made from a document you must take the whole document with you, not just the part that you wish to copy.
You must use the available preservation equipment to ensure that the documents are not damaged in any way.
If approached by a member of staff regarding a breach of any of the above points you must do as they ask.

If you are unsure of any procedures please ask a member of staff for advice before proceeding.

If you do not follow these rules we may remove your right to use the records.
