The National Archives is building on the previous work of the Historical Manuscripts Commission to support owners of family and estate archives, many of which had previously been surveyed and described by the Commission. In partnership with the Historic Houses Association, we held a consultative meeting at Syon House on 11 December 2012 by kind permission of His Grace the Duke of Northumberland to discuss the needs of such collections and to explore how they could be preserved and interpreted. Presentations from the event, 'For the Record: Preserving Your Archives and Unlocking their Potential', are available below.

We will be holding a follow-up meeting with the Historic Houses Association to see how The National Archives can best provide advice and support to its members who retain ownership of such papers.
