Funding programmes

Funders in both the public and private sectors offer a range of ongoing funding programmes. Some offer calls to specific deadlines, while others remain constantly open to applications. Governmental bodies may seek to support public policy through grant programmes, often one-off opportunities to pilot in new areas. The National Lottery was set up in 1994 to support good causes, and by February 2012 had distributed £5.5 billion to projects. Private trusts and foundations have their own priorities and key areas of interest, which may meet archive services' strategic goals.

This section provides information on funding from European and UK government, statutory organisations, lottery distributors and trusts and foundations, as well as guidance to support services in identifying appropriate funding streams and programmes.

Trusts and foundations

Archive services may approach private trusts and foundations, based in the UK or overseas, to support their work.
