The main collection is the NEEMARC collection which is the papers of three key institutions of the coal industry - the North East Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers, the Durham Miners Association (formerly National Union of Mineworkers, Durham Area) and the Durham Colliery Overmen, Deputies and Shotfirers Union

They also hold the Puttnam Archive - donated by former University Chancellor, Lord Puttnam and includes his diaries, speeches, letters and articles from c1980-2013

As well as The Kate Adie Collection, the Sidney Pollard Collection and the Quaker book collection of John Ormerod Greenwood
