Phillimore Atlas and Index of Parish Registers

Parish Registers are numerous in quantity and can be diffcult to locate but provide the only written record of the majority of our ancestors who are solely recorded by their baptism, marriage and burial. This guide is a time saving tool for family historians; this third edition covers England, Scotland and Wales. It enables users to find if and where registers have been deposited, what dates they cover and whether they have been copied and indexes.

The book includes:
The Atlas: including the famous 'county' parish maps, showing pre-1832 parochial boundaries, colour coded probate jurisdictions, starting dates of surviving registers and churches and chapels
Topographical maps: are included, facing each parish map and illustrate the contemporary road system and other local features in order to help reveal likely movement away from the parish
The Index: which lists all of the parishes, giving grid references to the county maps. It shows the whereabouts of original registers and their copies, it also gives registration districts and census information

In this third edition the Atlas has been digitised and is more clearly printed, the Index has been updated to 2003 from 1994 and it now includes two columns of details of census indexes and registration districts. An invaluable tool for genealogists.
