The omnibuses of the London General Omnibus Company played a vital role in supporting the allied armies during the Great War of 1914-18. Working tirelessly in often atrocious conditions the courage and determination of the men is beyond compare as they conveyed troops, munitions, food and general supplies to, and around, the battlefields of France and Flanders. Equally important was the LGOC's war effort on the Home Fromt, not only with providing transport for the thousands of Londoners employed on war work, but also the training of army drivers and mechanics, building army lorries and conveying the wounded to hospital- all after losing one third of the buses to the Western Front and with difficulties created by petrol rationing and air raids.This book tells the story of this fascinating period of transport history.
