This book includes the most detailed and complete list of the districts used in the registration of births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales, from their inception on 1st July 1837 right up to the present day.

The dates of creation and abolition of the districts are shown, together with the names of the offices to which records were transferred. There are also tables showing the districts covered by each volume number in the General Register Office's national indexes of births, marriages and deaths.

The Handbook should be invaluable for researchers consulting the national indexes, especially where district names and volume numbers are difficult to read from the microfiche.
