IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I, William Snape of the Parish of Hackney in the Countie of Middlesex beinge Syck in bodey but of perfect remembraunce thanks be unto Allmightie God doe make and ordeine this my last Will and Testament this xviith of July 1587 in manner and forme followinge

First I geve and bequeth my Soule to Allmightie God hopinge to be saved onely in the meritte of Christ Jesu my saviour and redemer and my body to be buryed at the discretion of myne Executor.

Item I geve and bequeth unto the repayer of Hackney Church the sum of xl [shillings]

Item I geve and bequeth unto the poore of Hackney in money xx [shillings] to be distributed the daye of my buryall

Item I geve and bequeth unto and for the better mainteyninge of the Grammar Schole xl [shillings]

Item I geve and bequeth unto Barbara my lovinge Wife all my plate and houshold stuff, all my mylch beast and iii Horses to be taken amongst my Horses at her choyce all my corne standinge on the ground all that part of the Wick marshe as it now lyeth included with a ditch and a Rayle and lyinge next to the wickhowse all that two closes called Ilberry and barly close duringe her naturall life yf the termes of those my leases continews so longe

Item I geve and bequeth unto Andrews Valentine in money xl pounds

Item I geve and bequeth unto John Valentine in money x pounds and unto Christopher Valentine x pounds in money and unto Suzsan Valentine vi pounds xiii [shillings] and vi d the children of Christopher Valentine my Sonne in Lawe to be payde unto them at the age of xxi yeres or at the time of Marriage which shall fyrst happen yf any of them dye that or those portions to be equally devided amongst the Survivos

Item I geve and bequeth unto my brother Henry Snape the benefite of the lease of a tenement in Church Alley in Colman Strete duringe his life and after his decease to the use and behouse of Paule Snape his Sonne

Item I geve and bequeth unto the said harry my Brother a Bedsteade a Fetherbed with all the furniture thereto belongynge from my Wifes portion before expressed And more I geve and bequeth him unto him iii horses to be delivered him at the appointment of myn Executor more I geve unto him the grasse of two acres of meadow in old fourde marsh - adjoyninge to two acres in the occupation of George Story duringe his naturall life yf the lease continue so long and one peck of Wheate an other of Rye to be delivered duringe the naturall lyfe of Barbara my Wiefe and at her charge yf the said Harry lyve so longe

Item I geve and bequeth unto the saide Henry Snape x pounds currant money to be delivered for his reliefe as shall be thought best at the discretion of myne Executor

Item I geve and bequeth unto John Snape Nichus Snape Paule Snape Joane Snape Mary Snape and Agnes Snape unto either of them v pounds currant money a peece to be paid unto them at the time of marriage or at the age of xxi yeres which doeth fyrst happen yf any of the saide Children dye the saide portion or portions to be equally devided amongst the survivors of them beinge the Children of Harry my saide Brother

Item I will and my mynde is that all such legacies before given and bequethed which woulde growe dewe ymmediately after my decease And because money will not be to answer the same presently that it shall be lawefull to paye the saide Legacies for myne Executor at any convenient time so yt be accomplished within one yere next after my decease

Item I geve and bequeth unto every one of my Godchildren in the Parish of Hackney or ells where xxi d a peece

Item I geve and bequeth unto John Newporte and

Item I geve and bequeth unto the Children of my late Brother John Snape namely Elizabeth Snape, Margaret Snape Alice Snape and Thomas Snape unto eyther of them v pounds currant money a peece to be payde unto those which are unmarried at the time of their marriage or at the age of xxi yeres which shall fyrst happen yf any of the saide Children now unmarryed doe dye before the time expressed that the survivors to enjoy the sayde portion so bequethed

Item I geve and beqieth unto Margaret Snape the Daughter of my Uncle John in money three pounds

Robert Chandler Johnn Fox Agnes Rige and Elizabeth Rige my servaunts to either of them in money v [shillings] a peece

The residue of all my goods and Chattalls whatsoever unbequethed I geve and bequeth unto my lovinge Brother Richard Snape to see me honestly buryed my debts and legacies in my saide Will answared a further Secret trust by me reposed in him to be after his good discretion in convenient time uncomplished whome I make and ordeine myne executor. In witness herof I have unto this my last Will and Testament sette my hande the dye and yere above written Willm Snapes marke In the presence of me John Lawrance George Webb
