The Etappe Service (KV 3/383 - KV 3/384) 01/09/1939 - 23/04/1952

The role of the secretive Etappendienst in peacetime was to acquire and equip agents among Germans living and working in foreign ports, or connected with shipping.  It was designed to create a supply network for maintaining the German naval fleet around the globe and, from its beginnings before the First World War, for intelligence gathering.  The files include details about the network's structure and methods and a collection of captured documents concerning the Etappe network in Britain between 1934-1939.  A related file on Dietrich Niebuhr (KV 2/3301) is also included in this release.
