A copy of a telegram from the British High Commissioner in Canada to Baldwin, 8 December 1936. It refers to the refusal of Mackenzie King, the Prime Minister of Canada, to let Baldwin quote him as saying that Canadian public opinion had been very upset by the royal crisis. Mackenzie King had advised Baldwin in a telegram of 30 November that so long as abdication were taken voluntarily, and was not imposed on Edward by his Ministers, this would be the 'honourable and right course' if he wished to marry Mrs Simpson.
