Concorde considered a "hopeless" initiative

Michael Heseltine, minister of aerospace in 1973, backed the Central Policy Review Staff (CPRS) assessment that Concorde was a "hopeless project" and that there was "no economic case for proceeding with the aircraft". The government's decision to proceed with the project may have been influenced by the advice of officials who suggested that "we cannot...cancel the project without prejudicing the ratification of our EEC membership".
