20 people, 20 unique stories
As part of 20sPeople – our season connecting the 1920s and the 2020s – 20 People of the 20s, saw staff members at The National Archives research a story of someone from the 1920s. From family members and First World War service personnel, to famous performers and politicians, we hope these stories will encourage you to explore the breadth of experience in 1920s Britain.
Staff used a range of records to uncover these stories from the 1921 Census and collections such as military service records, passenger lists, police and Home Office records as well as personal records and recollections. They reveal what life was like 100 years ago and how it differs from life today.
