As you study the source, ask yourself:

  • The picture in source 1a shows a procession of match workers going to Westminster. The photo in source 1b shows match workers at the Bryant and May factory. Do the two images show any information that is similar?
  • Which do you think is the most accurate image of the workers and their conditions?
  • What does the photo tell us about the age of the workers?
  • What does the photo suggest about the workers’ wages?
