Crowdfunding

The digital giving marketplace is growing rapidly and can help you to raise much needed funds for your project.

This presentation will help you to understand:

  • the world of online fundraising, including the difference between crowdfunding, crowdsourcing and digital fundraising
  • the different tools available to facilitate digital fundraising
  • what makes a successful integrated fundraising campaign
  • how to plan an integrated fundraising campaign for your own organisation

The presentation also includes links to a range of online platforms and case study examples of a number of successful campaigns at the Mass Observation Archive, the Royal Voluntary Service, Peter Mackay Archive, Hastings Pier, and Durham.

The following guidance will help you with your campaigns:

There’s also a summary of some different types of projects that have been successfully funded via crowdfunding platforms to inspire you further.

You may also want to consider whether the mobile giving platform DONATE would be a useful tool in supporting your fundraising efforts.  Run by the National Funding Scheme (NFS), a registered charity, DONATE provides a platform for the arts and heritage sector, allowing the public to give via SMS texting, QR code and web apps through one recognised brand.  There’s also a contactless method –  tap+DONATE™, with the aim of helping supporters donate quickly and seamlessly particularly if they’re not carrying cash.  Boxes are available either to purchase or rent.
